We build our lamps with high-purity fused quartz and filaments doped with rare-earth elements. The secret is in the filament
Most tungsten filaments just evaporate over time. That’s why lamps eventually “burn out” or just stop putting out enough wattage. We do things differently. We use a specific rare-earth alloy that doesn’t evaporate nearly as fast when things get hot. The result? Your infrared output stays rock solid. It doesn’t drift. That means your wood dries at the exact same rate in hour 4,000 as it did on day one. No guessing games.
Glass that doesn’t crack
Then there’s the tube. In a real-world shop, these lamps are constantly cycling on and off. That puts a massive amount of stress on the glass. Cheap quartz can’t handle that. It develops these tiny micro-cracks that eventually lead to a total failure. We use top-tier quartz because it laughs at thermal shock. Plus, it lets short-wave and medium-wave IR pass right through. The heat actually hits the wood instead of getting trapped in the glass.
A quick word of caution
Here’s the thing: these lamps put out a ton of heat. You can’t just toss them into any old housing and hope for the best. Keep your reflectors clean. Make sure your ventilation is actually up to the task. If your cooling is too weak, you’ll fry your wiring and kill the lamp’s lifespan, no matter how good the materials are.
